Chromium (VI) in toys

Chromium is a metal with many valence states, the most common of which are Cr (III) and Cr (VI). Among them, the toxicity of Cr (VI) is more than 100 times higher than that of Cr (III). It is very toxic to humans, animals and aquatic organisms. It is listed as a primary carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

CIC-D120 ion chromatograph and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used to analyze migration chromium (VI) in toys with high-speed and high-sensitivity, which met the requirements of European Union toy safety standards EN 71-3 2013+A3 2018 and RoHS for the detection of chromium (VI) (according to IEC 62321).According to (EU) 2018/725, item 13 of Part III of European Union Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC Annex II, the migration limit of chromium (VI) is adjusted as follows:
